Description
On display at the Hawaiian Railway Museum in Ewa (pronounced eh-vah) is this Oahu Railway #85 with a small string of freight cars. It almost looks like #85 is almost ready to lead a freight train along the shores of Oahu. The #85 is the only remaining road locomotive from the OR&L and for the longest time was on Maui before being moving back to Oahu a few years ago. Last time I was here, the engine was still in primer; glad to see that she now has a coat of paint on her.

The locomotive was donated to the Travel Town Railroad Museum in Griffith Park, 1955 or '56. They created a beautiful 3 ft railroad called the Crystal Springs and Southwestern, and followed an equestrian path, and went past what is now the Los Angeles Live Steamers. The wye was probably somewhere beyond what is now the Griffith Park Southern Railroad. They shut down the railroad in 1961 when they discovered that she had huge problems, involving the boiler. She went on display for a while and was sent back to Oahu in the early 90's. Now, she sits here, awaiting her return.
